Most people know the story of Vail after the ski resort arrived. This section tells the stories that came before it — Ute country, early homesteaders, ranching families, the lettuce years, Camp Hale, and the people who built lives along Gore Creek long before there were chairlifts.

Before there were ski lifts, luxury hotels, and million-dollar homes, there were ranchers, homesteaders, miners, carpenters, and families making a go of it in this valley.
